How Can Tottenham Challenge For The Premier League Title This Season?

tottenham hotspurs

Tottenham Hotspur have started their 2020/21 season in great form. Their 6-1 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford making many punters on Betway sports betting to believe that Mourinho’s men could be genuine title contenders this season. Daniel Levy finally seems to be getting what he expected from the “Special One” when he brought him in last season. So, can the Spurs team that has done some great summer transfers and has started the league well go all the way? Well, here are five reasons why fans should take Tottenham seriously in this season’s title challenge.

Jose Mourinho Should Keep the Team Spirit High

After a career-damaging end to his “dream job” at Manchester United, many thought that Jose’s days as a top manager were well behind him. After an uninspiring sixth-place finish in his first season as Tottenham manager, it seemed that his critics were right.

Despite starting the season with a defeat at home, Tottenham seem like a totally different side. The manager seems to have developed a great connection with his players and is getting the best out of them. If they can keep up the high spirits, then Tottenham will be a serious title
challenger this season.

Get the Best Out Of the New Players

Tottenham Hotspurs did some excellent business in the transfer market, and they seem to be getting the rewards. The acquisition of Sergio Reguilon on loan from Real Madrid was justified by his performance at Old Trafford, where he took United’s defense apart with his pace and crossing prowess. Reguilon seems to have sorted the left-back issue that has troubled Spurs for a while now.

Another signing that seems to have settled in well is Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg, who is the Mourinho type of defensive midfielder. He has already shown that his distribution is excellent, and he also does well defensively. The world has not seen much from Gareth Bale, but punters on Betway can’t wait to see him back in the starting team. If Mourinho can get the best put of his latest acquisitions, they are poised to have a great season.

Keep the Son-Kane Partnership Firing

Son Heung-Min seems to be having his best season at Tottenham. The South Korean has taken the English Premier League by storm and has helped ease the pressure on his captain

Harry Kane. Son has been scoring goals for fun this season, something that fans will be hoping continues throughout the season.

Another factor that can make them real title favorites is the strike partnership Son and Kane have struck this season. Their link-up play is a beauty to watch, with the two scoring goals and providing assists for each other. The beginning of the season has seen the two display an almost telepathic understanding of each other. The four assists Kane provided for Son in the four goals he scored against Southampton are something Spurs fans, and Mourinho will be hoping to continue for longer.

If Mourinho can keep the two fit and firing on all cylinders throughout the season, then they have an opportunity of becoming one of the most celebrated strike partnerships in the Premier League. Whether or not Tottenham win the title, this season will hugely depend on these two players’ performances.

The Front-Runners Keep Stumbling

This season, the reigning champions Liverpool have had an abysmal start to their campaign. Their lowest moment was when they conceded seven against a resilient Aston Villa. For whatever reason, the team that almost won the league unbeaten last season seems not to be working this season.

Unless Jurgen Klopp can find a way to steady his ship, this poor form could play to Jose Mourinho’s men’s advantage. The injury to their skipper Vigil Van Dijk is also a big blow to Liverpool’s hopes of retaining the title.

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola also seem to be struggling. They are no longer the team a punter on Betway would be sure of winning a match regardless of the opponent. The other teams that finished ahead of spurs last season are also still trying to find their feet. At the moment, only Everton seems to be the stable team. If the front-runners keep stumbling, then Mourinho and his troops could have a huge opportunity of going for the title.

Gareth Bale

It was a coup for Dan Levy to get back their fan favorite on loan from Real Madrid. Despite his challenges at the Madrid club, Bale remains a top talent. He has not featured in a full match since his return, but the prospect of him and Reguilon on the left-hand side is mouth-watering.

At 31, Bale can win games for Tottenham single-handedly. If Jose Mourinho can integrate the superstar to his team well without upsetting the team balance, then Spurs could have a forward line that no defense would want to come up against. If they can get Bale back to his best form, then Spurs are genuine title contenders.
