The Champions League could return in August. With three Spanish sides in the running, the journies of foreign teams become necessary for the match to be played.
On Tuesday, the Spanish government made public that everyone who travels to Spain from abroad will have to be quarantined for 14 days.
This would make it impossible for the Champions League teams to play their matches. It is for that reason that the opponents of the Spanish sides will have to ask for special dispensation, according to ‘AS’.
“It is premature to anticipate scenarios. Even UEFA has not officially decreed the return date for European competitions”, said Irene Lozano, president of the CSD.
The ministerial order, published in the Spanish bill on Tuesday, only exempts cross-border workers, transporters, crews, and health professionals from quarantine, not sportsmen.
“It is not yet possible to know how long the quarantine rule will last, nor what the other countries involved in this competition will order, so venturing what might happen in August would be risky,” said Lozano.
In this way, and despite not yet having an official announcement of the Champions and Europa League return, the European competitions will face a problem if they want to play in Spain.
